ugandaUganda is located at the geographical heart of the African continent and is a cultural melting pot, where the 30-plus different indigenous languages belonging to five distinct linguistic groups, and an equally diverse cultural mosaic of music, art and handicrafts co-exist. The country’s most ancient inhabitants, withdrawn to the hilly southwest, are the Batwa and Bambuti Pygmies, who remained from once various amount of the hunter-gatherer cultures that occupied much of East Africa.

At the cultural axis of contemporary Uganda lie the Bantu-speaking kingdoms of Buganda, Bunyoro, Ankole and Toro, whose traditional monarchs – renewed in the 1990s and still serve as important cultural figureheads.

Uganda is sometimes called the Pearl of Africa, where people are friendly and most of the country can be visited without any problems. However Uganda claims the lowest crime rate in East Africa, anyway crime happens. You should take some simple precautions to make your visit trouble-free. Just follow the next guidelines:

Do leave large amounts of cash in your hotel room.

Do not leave your valuables or any luggage in the back of your car or on the roof.

Never camp in solitary areas, but on approved sites.

Keep an eye on your handbag when shopping or in crowded streets, restaurants or pubs, in short everywhere you go.

Do not forget to lock your car and always park in controlled parking areas.

When visiting tourist sites never wander off the route or the outskirts of the site if you are not sure where you are going.

In case of emergency dial 999 and ask for police assistance. But if you observe these simple precautionary measures you are unlikely to need them.
