Consider Namibia as your safari destination. Read general facts about this country, best time to visit and main attractions.

namibiaAs some say Namibia is the land that God made in anger. It was the first country to include the protection of the environment into its constitution, Namibia’s character penetrate into its extensive, open spaces, with fiery red dunes floating into an endless sky and merging with it. These immense sand mountains are most magnificent at the distant desert moonscape called Sossusvlei.

Namibia was named after the 80-million-year-old Namib Desert, one of the driest places on earth. The Namib, also called the Living Desert, is a world of extensive space, boundless horizons, dramatic desertscapes and pointed mountain peaks. The ancient dunes stretch through the entire Atlantic coast, covering the 800 mile-long, Skeleton Coast.

Namibia's safari seasons can be divided into three main periods: The first one is a cool dry season from May to October when days are cool, clear and sunny and night temperatures may drop down to near freezing. At the end of the dry season the temperature rises dramatically and it can become very uncomfortable in the Kaokoveld and Etosha. The floodwaters are coming from the north in the Caprivi area between May and August as they flow into the larger Okavango water system.

The second one lasts from October to December. It is the period of high temperatures and sporadic rains.

The third period is the main rainy season and lasts from January to April. The mid-summer can be utterly hot and violent thunderstorms can cause flash floods especially in the north are a usual event. You should pay particular attention to the local weather forecasts particularly when you travel to the remote areas.

The best game viewing period is generally between May and October when the season for bird watching is best from November to March throughout Namibia.
