Hunting in South Africa

south-africa-huntingLicense fees are payable in advance for any of the big five. All trophy fees for plains game in South Africa include license fees. Certain species require special licenses and/or permits, namely CITES permits. Of course you will gain the assistance in obtaining them. Without these permits, your trophies will be prohibited to be exported. Licenses fees, where required, are payable sixty days before the start of your safari and are not transferable. Different regulations manage each province with regards to wing shooting and different license fees are payable for bird shooting in the various areas.

Hunting in South Africa is generally conducted on private owned lands which are fenced in. It is rather hard to track down in the animals or specific trophy bull on a 2000 hectare / 4941 acre farm although they are fenced. Some of the farms are smaller but they range between 1500 hectare to 5000 hectare/3700 acre to 12350 acre.

Big Five or dangerous game hunting safaris should be booked and planned well in advance particularly if to consider the CITES permits needed for some of the trophies to be exported.

South Africa has a plentiful of species and trophies but not all of them live in the same environment. With South Africa's wide diversity and climate you cannot expect to track down big kudu bulls next to the brown Limpopo river and also there bag a springbuck trophy, as they don't live in the same environment. So consider this aspect when selecting your animals and see if you get a list down for one area only or think over a longer trip and make it a two part safari hunting unique trophies in two different environments with different hunting techniques.

Even though you will be in hot Africa some of the places are cold in winter primarily the hunting season April-August so be prepared for even snow on higher altitudes.

The daily rates always include the service of a professional hunter, skinners, trackers and a hunting vehicle. Taxidermy is not included into the daily rates.

Daily rates may also vary depending on whether you are a hunter or only an observer. A person who hunts for even only one day is considered a hunter and will pay the full rates for the full duration of the stay. Of course, there will be exceptions made however under certain conditions.

Trophy hunting is available year round. In September/October visibility is much better. For bow hunting is ideal from July through October, bird hunting is only available May through September.
