Hunting in Cameroon
cameroon-huntingCameroon is situated in the Western Africa. And this country has somewhat of a set season although more dictated by weather. General hunting season in the Savannah region is January through April and in the Forest region it is March through June.
The game available in Cameroon are Bongo, Forest Sitatunga, Red River Hog,Yellow-Backed Duiker, Bay Duiker, Black-Fronted Duiker, Dwarf Forest Elephant, Giant Forest Hog, Peter's Duiker, Gabon Duiker and  Dwarf Forest Buffalo.

The recommended caliber of guns and ammo is as follows: Savannah - Bring two rifles. One in the .300 type caliber that you are comfortable with and shoot well and also one in the .375 caliber for hunting buffalo and as a reserve in case of any problems with the lighter rifle. Forest –Bring one rifle in the .300+ caliber with either open sights or a scope that has low magnification capabilities as most shots will be less than 40 yards.

If you want to hunt Duiker’s, bring a basic 12 gauge shotgun although sometimes the camps have company firearms/shotguns. If you desire to travel without firearms, arrangements must be made in advance to insure availability.

Another problem is the quantity of the ammos you should take with. This is principally controlled by airline regulations, which allows a maximum of 11 pounds of ammo per passenger. Based on the length of safari as well as the overall number of species you wish to hunt, the recommendation is bring good quality soft point ammo calculated at 2 rounds per specie to be hunted or a maximum of 60 rounds of soft point ammo.
For the heavier caliber, the suggestion is calculate 3 rounds per specie that you would plan to use the heavier rifle for a maximum again of 60 rounds. Such amount will not break the airline regulations. The technical allowance for all of the African countries is a maximum of 100 rounds per firearm but it is almost impossible to utilize this amount of ammo and because of the stricter airline regulations it is not recommended to exceed this 11 pound allowance to avoid possible misunderstandings at the departure airport.
