Hunting Season in Burkina Faso
Actually in all of the concessions, there is a good concentration of big game. Though the average concentration is less than in some southern African countries, the species are rather various.
The hunting blocks are often located near national parks and game reserves.  On the Nazinga “ranch” to the South of Ouagadougou lions are under protection but there is a great possibility of hunting record category trophies of western roan, western hartebeest, as well as of warthog.  Further to the East there are four concessions around the Singou (integral game reserve), where actually some hunting is also done.

A hunt in Burkina Faso is a enjoyable experience, with different trophies at moderate prices.  Such trophies as roan or lion can be hunted for costs as a part of fees charged in eastern or even southern Africa.
Mostly hunting starts in December. While in December the game has not been bothered since the previous hunting season, due to the non-permanent watering places, it is far more widely spread than later during the dry season.  It is also less evident as the reed-grass and leafy trees and bushes are still unburned.  Temperatures are nice during the day, while it is chilly in the early morning and in the evening while in the hunting car.

Temperatures are a bit warmer in January and early February, up to 35°C (95°F) in the middle of the day, but still cool early in the morning and in the evenings.  It becomes much warmer after mid-February and rather hot in March, especially after mid-March, when the temperature can reach 45°C (113°F) and last until the end of the season or maybe a bit earlier with the beginning of the first rains.  Nevertheless this hot and dry period has some advantages with a density of game staying close to the permanent watering places. It also makes the tracking easier, particularly of lion.  It is reasonable to book early, as soon as you can after the end of the season, if you want to pick your dates. The highly regarded operators sometimes offer bookings a year in advance.

Several flights per week service Burkina Faso via Paris with Air France, Point Afrique, Egypt Air, and others schedules. There is a chance that some French travel agencies – particularly those that may have an interest in a hunting business in Burkina Faso – can offer highly competitive charges. You may need a tourist visa to enter Burkina Faso. E.U. citizens can obtain it on arrival, but it is recommended to get information from the Burkina Faso consulate in your country.

You also require a firearms entry license, which you should requested well in advance. Your booking agent or the outfitter can take care of it if you give the completed form back in time.  The outfitter or his agent will wait for you at the airport and help you with the entry formalities.  According to the arrival of the plane and the distance of the booked outfit, you may need to spend a night at a hotel in the capital Ouagadougou.
