Camping in Africa has a special taste of adventure and freedom. Here you will come in close contact with local people and with wild game. If you choose the amenities of an organized hotel - you miss real Africa. But sleeping in a tent can let hear you all the noises of the night - hyenas laughing, gazelles passing your tents in merely a meter distance and the song of the birds will wake you up in the morning.
Camping equipment:
Bring with you: a small but sturdy tent with moskitonet; sleeping-bag; sleeping-mat; torch; petrol-cooker.
Items to buy in Africa: a few meters rope; camping-axe; a lot of batteries; containers for water; camping-chairs; extra blankets; buckets with lids to store food; knifes, forks, dishes, pots; a good petrol lamp; washing-powder and cleaning equipment.
It is better to take soft bags (that are lockable) than rectangular suitcases, which are rather heavy and the weight of luggage that can be carried on small aircraft is limited to 25-53 pounds depending on the size of the plane. And now what you need to take with you to get into another country. First of all, the documents. They are passports (with visa entries, if needed), health cards (vaccination certificate, if required), airline tickets, cheque book, cash & travellers’ cheques, credit cards (VISA, Mastercard and/or American Express), photo copy of passport/visas/insurance papers. Then pack your clothing. A basic indication of what you should bring is given below. Bring khaki and green colored clothing. Avoid bright colors while on safari; camouflage clothes are illegal because they are worn by local soldiers. The main items are tennis shoes, flip flops, hat, windbreaker/jacket, pullover or sweater, 2 pc. safari pants (or chinos), 2 pc. safari shorts, 4 pair sport socks, 3 short sleeve shirts, 1 long sleeve shirt, 2 t-shirts, pajamas, swim trunks, 1 pair casual slacks (men) evening outfit (women) - for evening, bras (sports type) – women, 6 sets underwear and belt.
Provisions
Take a good stock of durable supplies and fresh bread and fruit whenever available, but bread will last only for three days, fruit doesn’t stand driving on rough roads for a longer time.
