Many of African safaris visit Kenya, home to the prominent game-observing reserve of Masai Mara. There you may experience several different habitats in one day, from open grasslands wandered by giraffes and gazelles to forests flourishing with monkeys. The Masai Mara and Serengeti National Park (the crown jewel of Tanzania's wildlife sanctuaries) are well-known for the seasonal migration of more than one million wildebeest. Also in Tanzania, safari guests go down nearly 2,000 feet into the Ngorongoro Crater to observe lions, elephants, zebra and endangered black rhinos.

South African safaris usually include Kruger National Park, featuring an unsurpassed variety of species and important archaeological sites. Safaris in Zambia visit the Lower Zambezi National Park, hover to more than 300 bird species and abundant herds of elephants and hippos.

Botswana's Moremi Game Reserve, the "predator capital" of Africa, boasts leopards, cheetahs, African wild dogs, spotted hyenas and a large resident pride of lions. Etosha National Park in Namibia is one of the largest parks in Africa and an excellent place to view the rare black rhino.
