Passports Your passport should be valid at least 6 months required by all.
Visas It is required by all excluding nationals of Rwanda and Uganda. Guests arriving at Bujumbura airport from countries where Burundi does not have diplomatic representation can get visas on arrival, if they have informed their travel agency of their passport number, identity and flight details prior to their arrival. If you are traveling onto a third country within 72 hours may also get a visa upon arrival.
Types of visa and cost If you have Tourist or Business (which is valid for up to 30 days), you should pay US$80 or US$40 (non-US citizens); single- or multiple-entry.
If your stay exceeds 30 days, visa will cost US$160 for stays. The visa validity is at the discretion of the Immigration Department. You do not need a transit visa if you are continuing the journey to a third country and staying up to 24 hours, and if producing valid onward documentation and not leaving the airport. A fee of US$10 is required, if staying up to 72 hours.
Send your application to Consulate (or Consular section at Embassy). Application requirements are as following:
1) Valid passport. 2) Three passport-size photos. 3) Three application forms (requests for application forms should be accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed envelope). 4) Stamped, self-addressed envelope for recorded delivery. 5) Return ticket or copy of flight itinerary, plus proof of accommodation. 6) Yellow fever vaccination certificate. 7) Fee, payable in cash, postal order or company cheque.
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travelers over one year of age arriving from infected areas. A cholera vaccination certificate may still be a condition of entry to Burundi. Vaccines against poliomyelitis and typhoid are recommended. Malaria risk exists throughout the year in the whole country. The recommended prophylaxis is mefloquine.
