| National Parks of Botswana | The Okavango Delta is undoubtedly Africa's most beautiful wetland and is one of the most amazing natural wonders of the world. Although the Delta's wildlife variety and density are not as huge as other safari destinations in the region the Okavango can offer, but it is a truly unforgettable experience.
The floods begin at Mohembo in December, the peak is between January and March (sometimes may be as late as May). The flood peak in Maun usually is in July or August (sometimes may last to September). Best time for game viewing is generally July to October. In some areas of the Delta during August and September heavy winds are blowing and during the wet season some of the seasonal camps are closed.
Moremi Game Reserve is located in the north eastern Delta and includes Chief's Island and the private admission on its borders is a main attraction, as the tourists are stunned by its game, birdlife and spectacular scenery. Here you may stay at some of Botswana's finest small and seasonal safari lodges. Moremi is considerably different due to seasonal variation and you should think this over quite carefully when planning a safari. Though Moremi is good all the year but best time to visit is during the dry months from May to October.
Chobe National Park is arguably Botswana's finest destination for game viewing especially on the Chobe riverside and in the Savuti area. But it occurs to be a bit crowded by the tourists, that is why the groups are seeking for some remoter and more exclusive peripheries to the west. Chobe is a main destination for first-time visitors to Africa and it can also provide some prime opportunities for specialists.
As for the best time to visit, the riverfront at Kasane and Linyanti is good all year, but the best period is from May to October. The best time to visit the Savuti area is from November to May, but if the Savuti channel floods or water remains in the Mababe Depression then it is from May to October. In the middle of the winter it can be very cold and the worst heat is from September until the rain season starts.
The Kalahari, broadly encircling the Makgadikgadi and Nxai pans is actually not a common safari destination. Although it is an absolutely fascinating habitat, which was heavily influenced by deeper geological factors and seasonal water. But anyway a safari in the Kalahari is really unforgettable experience.
